Educational Programmes

Free Evening Course In Introductory Astronomy:

M.P. Birla Planetarium conducts a Free Evening Course in Introductory Astronomy. The course started in 1965 and is running successfully for the last 50+ years. It consists of about 40 lectures that are held once a week on TUESDAYS. The classes are held in the evenings from 6.30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. The medium of instruction is English. The eligibility criterion for this course is 10+2 in any stream, without any age bar.It has become extremely popular and people of all age groups and all vocations had enrolled in the programme. This is a certificate course, with certificates given at the end to participants who have attended at least 60% of the lectures during the course. The intake capacity is 90.

The basic concept of astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology are given in this course in a semi-technical manner using basic mathematics

Post Graduation Course in Astronomy & Planetarium Sciences

Started since 1993 the post graduate diploma programme is probably the only one in the country which deals with planetarium sciences in addition to astronomy and astrophysics. This 10 month, once a year course is meant for science graduates with mathematics as one of the subject at the under graduate level. This 5 day a week course is conducted in the evening, during 6-8 PM. The classes are held by senior university professors and reputed scientists. A diploma is given to the participants after successful completion of an examination (6 theoretical, 1 practical, 2 project work and 1 viva-voce) held at the end of the course. This course is structured for motivating and educating candidates interested in astronomy so that they can latter pursue higher studies in the subject and even build a carrier on it.
